A robust and jovial Hawaiian man, Tony relishes on first-person storytelling and interesting anecdotes in explaining Waikiki's unique history. When he was a young boy growing up in Hawaii, Tony was a "coin diver." Those were the young men who met the Matson ships when they docked at Aloha Tower. When the visitors arrived they would throw coins into the ocean and these coin divers would dive for them, capture the coin(s), hold them up for the visitors to see and stuff the coins in their mouth. They would do this all day. A friend of his dove for a $100 bill wrapped around a quarter that was thrown into the water by Frank Sinatra on his visit to the Islands. He's met numerous celebrities and become one in his own right, often representing the hotel for television interviews, media tours and so forth. Tony is a previous "Employee of the Year" award recipient, and he continues to receive letters from visitors complimenting him on his fantastic tour and his genuine aloha spirit. Visit Tony during your next visit to Waikiki and learn more about the unique history of the original Moana Hotel, the 100-year anniversary of the Moana Surfrider, A Westin Resort and much more. |
